Over numerous years exploring the Zillertal Valley I've logged some amazing snowboard friendly off piste zones. During each week I plan various adventures to suit the level and experience of the group.
"I hit Mayrhofen last season with Maverix and an eclectic group of boarders lead by Head Coach, J. We experienced progressive off-piste, on-piste skills and flat-land tricks, kicker training (and building) and a great atmosphere, both on the pow (mmm, strudel) and relaxing afterwards in the Lacherhof bar.
J made us work hard, but with that came great reward. I've hit a bit of side-piste before but being lead by J, we spent a good amount of time out of sight of groomed runs but within the resort boundaries, hitting the untracked pow fields that mayrhofen has to offer. I felt my off-piste confidence grow exponentially. When the off-piste conditions deteriorated, J switched his keen eye on to our on-piste skills, with some flat-land exercises and tricks, leading to eurocarving and cloudburst (very showy, and refreshing when the conditions are right!).
Sliding down fresh corduroy on a bluebird day is epic, but if you're looking for something more, I can heartily recommend the winter camps- I'm already looking forward to the next season with Maverix- see you there!"
"Without a doubt the hardest I have ever worked on snow, but the best snow holiday yet.
In terms of off-piste and performance riding Jay's coaching helped me improve significantly. Can't wait until next year. "
I look to create bespoke features most weeks that challenge and excite the team as well as create a unique experience no other camp will provide.
PURPLE WEEK PROFILE
My purple weeks revolve around changing the foundations of a persons riding allowing them the ability to explore steeper and more technical piste terrain and expanding their foundation freestyle skills. In addition I look to build riders off piste skills with safety awareness training as we explore some of the most fun backcountry terrain in the Zillertal valley.
Additional optional challenges include working with local mountain guides to try splitboarding and building fun off piste features. This is ideally suited for new riders to my way of coaching and riding, or previous clients looking to keep building their riding skills to allow them to more effortlessly enjoy other more technical coaching weeks.
ORANGE WEEK PROFILE
This is an ideal steeping stone from my Purple weeks or for those more experienced riders who want to step up their game. These weeks involve accessing more technical on piste terrain by building performance riding skills that will allow effective shredding of ANY piste with control and confidence as well as adding in fun freestyle elements as they flow down the piste.
Off piste terrain exploration could involve mini hikes or utilising additional equipment including snowshoes or splitboards if the groups desires more adventure. I recommend all attendees be prepared to bring or hire off piste safety equipment.
YELLOW WEEK PROFILE
Yellow weeks are for previous campers only who have a proven track record riding off piste and are aware of how to perform in a safe manner in hazardous environments.
These weeks will involve exploring new terrain and working in collaboration with local guides to map new snowboard friendly zones and applying the core fun freestyle and technical riding elements from previous coaching weeks to that terrain.
All attendees are required to bring or hire suitable off piste safety and touring equipment.
